About CIR

The Center for Investigative Reporting is the nation’s oldest nonprofit investigative reporting organization. We arm the public with thoroughly reported stories that offer deep explanations of complex issues – and cover those stories locally, nationally and internationally. Our highly-skilled reporters know how to cultivate sources and find hidden information; engineers and analysts create sophisticated news apps, interactive maps and tools to help the public understand issues from the macro to the micro level; and our radio, video and multimedia producers create engaging documentaries, videos and animated features to demystify complex topics. CIR delivers this information across hundreds of outlets and engages readers, listeners, viewers, and those most impacted by our reporting.

The Center for Investigative Reporting is seeking a Producer who will be part of a 4-person team responsible for the production of the various video projects CIR is undertaking, ranging from nightly news pieces to feature length documentaries. The producer will be responsible for all phases of production, from generating pitches based on CIR reporting; conducting original research; developing shooting schedules based on project budgets; conducting interviews and gathering scenes to tell coherent and compelling stories; writing scripts and supervising edits; and providing any other deliverables required for clients or CIR’s web site. The producer will have the primary responsibility for the structure and accuracy of the stories they are crafting, but will be expected to work in close collaboration with managing editors and others on CIR’s reporting team. The producer will report to a senior producer who will in turn report to CIR’s director of digital media.
