December Digital Journalist: What Matters by David Eliott Cohen

The December issue of The Digital Journalist is now online. This month features David Eliott Cohen's new book - What Matters - containing 18 long-term photo essays by some of the best photographers out there. From David's intro: "I created this book because I believe in my heart that one great photograph can change the world. And if I can show 250 great photographs about the crucial issues of our time to enough people, then maybe one of those people, or maybe a few people, or, maybe even many of those people will connect with an image. Ed Kashi's latest project, Curse of the Black Gold, is featured in this month's Digital Journalist.  The feature includes an introduction by Dirck Halstead, a gallery of images, and a video interview with Kashi. If you haven't seen this project yet, here's your chance. Another feature this month is on Walter Iooss' new release, Athlete. With introductions by Michael Jordan and Sports Illustrated Editor Terry McDonell, and extended commentary by Iooss interspersed throughout the gallery, this is a feature well worth checking out.

Ed Kashi at George Eastman House this Friday

If you're near Rochester, NY this Friday (June 27), don't miss the exhibition party for Ed Kashi's new book/project Curse of the Black Gold: 50 Years of Oil in the Niger Delta.  The exhibition is up now through September 1, 2008. Friday's exhibition party will be held from 7-9:30 pm.  While you're at the museum, you can also check out work from Eli Reed's Black in America and Machines of Memory: Cameras from the Technology Collection.
