MediaStorm Welcomes Summer Intern Arkasha Stevenson

MediaStorm is excited to welcome Arkasha Stevenson to our team as our Summer 2013. Arkasha Stevenson is a photojournalist currently based in Los Angeles. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina in December 2010. While attending school, she documented issues in the rural South, such as drug addiction and prostitution in Durham, N.C., and child care in Elizabethtown, Ky. For the last year and a half Stevenson has worked as a photography and video intern at the Los Angeles Times. During her internship she has had the opportunity to photograph a wide variety of subjects, including the Occupy movement, the remote desert squatter camp of Slab City and the Coachella Music Festival, and has been sent internationally to follow the Stanley Cup. For six months, Stevenson had the privilege of documenting 19-year-old Jesus Garcia’s battle with terminal cancer. In 2011 Stevenson won first place in the…

MediaStorm welcomes Shreeya Sinha

We are excited to welcome Shreeya Sinha as our Summer 2010 intern. Shreeya uses storytelling to bridge human divides and shed light on media dark issues. She spent 7 months reporting the effects of psychological trauma in gangs and their victims. She's written about life along the poverty line in New York, investigated the transparency of oil revenue flows in developing countries and reported on socioeconomics in Israel and the West Bank for The Carter Center. Shreeya won the 2010 Foreign Press Association Award for her dedication to international journalism. In addition to Shreeya's work, she has helped produce several shows at CNNi in New York, CNN-IBN and CNBC-TV18 in India. At The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, she helped develop social media outreach to conflict zones. She was raised in India, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and the foothills of the Indian Himalayas. She holds a M.S. in Journalism from Columbia's Graduate…

International Bridges to Justice (IBJ) looking for interns

For any students out there looking for opportunities to travel and create meaningful work this summer, IBJ has a couple of openings? 1. DOCUMENTARY WRITING/FILM/PHOTO INTERNSHIP IN BURUNDI, CAMBODIA, CHINA, INDIA, OR ZIMBABWE. International Bridges to Justice (IBJ) is again seeking aspiring journalists, photographers or filmmakers who can document the work of legal aid lawyers in Burundi, Cambodia, China, India or Zimbabwe. Working closely with IBJ staff in those countries, aspiring journalists will have the opportunity to document, film or photograph the cases of ordinary people, lost or forgotten by their criminal justice systems and often times the victims of torture or arbitrary detainment. During the preliminary stages of the project, the writer, film- or photo-journalist will shadow the defenders as they work with clients and meet with security personnel. Students would then weave the individual stories into a larger narrative about human rights reforms and the end of torture in the…
