Photography, Expanded: Interactive & Multiplatform Strategies for Photographers

The Magnum Foundation and the Open Society Foundations Documentary Photography Project are holding a one-day conference to explore new opportunities and strategies for engagement, innovation and impact. Photography, Expanded: Interactive & Multiplatform Strategies for Photographers will feature presentations by Susan Meiselas, photographer and president of the Magnum Foundation, Amy Yenkin, director of Open Society Foundations Documentary Photography Project, and Wendy Levy, director of New Arts Axis. They will present a series of case studies and lead discussions examining works-in-progress and the challenges facing photographers in the field. Attendees will also participate in break-out sessions that explore tools, technologies and strategies that can advance documentary photography projects in new directions. Magnum Foundation and Inge Morath Foundation Announce 2013 Competition

The Magnum Foundation and the Inge Morath Foundation have opened the 12th annual Inge Morath Award. The annual award of $5,000 is given to a female photographer under the age of 30 to support the completion of a long-term documentary project. One award winner and up to two finalists are selected by a jury composed of Magnum photographers and the director of the Inge Morath Foundation. How to Enter All submissions must be postmarked or delivered electronically by April 30, 2013. Submissions must include: 40 – 60 photographs (1200 pixels on the longest side @ 150 DPI saved as a JPEG compression at 8 minimum). Magnum Foundation launches Emergency Fund website

The Magnum Foundation has launched a new website for their Emergency Fund, and it's definitely something you should make time to go check out. There are already several stories up on the site, along with information about how you can get involved and help support these photographers. More on the Emergency Fund from the Magnum Foundation Site: The Emergency Fund supports experienced photographers with a commitment to documenting social issues, working long-term, and engaging with an issue over time. Projects address critical global issues that have not received the attention they deserve, or budding crises that are still over the horizon. Photographers retain the copyright to their work and distribute it widely: through traditional and new media, in collaboration with nonprofits or NGOs, and on the Emergency Fund website.
