Simon Schorno

Simon Schorno is currently Spokesman and head of media relations for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in North America. As editor of Intercross, the blog of the ICRC in North America, Simon works with leading photojournalists to produce multimedia content on humanitarian issues and armed conflict. Prior to his current posting in Washington D.C., Simon has worked for the ICRC in Guantanamo Bay, Pakistan, Haiti, the Palestinian Occupied Territories, Afghanistan and Iraq. Prior to joining the ICRC in 2001, Simon worked at a director for RAI, the Italian national broadcaster, and as a cameraman for APTN in Beirut, Lebanon. He directed several documentary films, including Poetic Licence, part of the official Sundance 2000 selection and broadcast on PBS. He holds master's degrees in social anthropology and film production from the University of Southern California.
Simon participated in the November 2011 MediaStorm Storytelling Workshop. He had the following to say about his experience:
I had high expectations for this workshop, hoping to learn about multimedia and storytelling and wanting to be challenged. Brian and the entire MediaStorm team delivered on all counts, and then some. The workshop is hands-on and intense and was, for me, hugely rewarding. Not only did I gain new technical skills that I will now refine and use but l also came away with a renewed sense of wonder at the potential of documentary.
The passion of the entire MediaStorm crew for documentary storytelling, their professionalism, their willingness to share what they know and their commitment to help the team produce something we could all be proud of were outstanding. That, the constant interaction and exchange with teammates made the workshop an unforgettable experience and one that has definitely changed the way I see.
