For any students out there looking for opportunities to travel and create meaningful work this summer, IBJ has a couple of openings?
1. DOCUMENTARY WRITING/FILM/PHOTO INTERNSHIP IN BURUNDI, CAMBODIA, CHINA, INDIA, OR ZIMBABWE.
International Bridges to Justice (IBJ) is again seeking aspiring journalists, photographers or filmmakers who can document the work of legal aid lawyers in Burundi, Cambodia, China, India or Zimbabwe. Working closely with IBJ staff in those countries, aspiring journalists will have the opportunity to document, film or photograph the cases of ordinary people, lost or forgotten by their criminal justice systems and often times the victims of torture or arbitrary detainment. During the
preliminary stages of the project, the writer, film- or photo-journalist will shadow the defenders as they work with clients and meet with security personnel. Students would then weave the individual stories into a larger narrative about human rights reforms and the end of torture in the 21st Century. (Here is a short film highlighting some of the work our interns did in 2008: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BczP8jLnW4I .)

JusticeMakers is a new(ish) initiative of IBJ that is seeking to create the world’s premier online venue in support of criminal legal aid in developing legal systems. (www.justicemakers.net) We host global competitions for innovations that curb torture, spark discussions among passionate defenders, and build tools to assist legal aid lawyers in their monumental task.
