The Director of Multimedia is responsible for leading the Star Tribune’s content generation efforts in still photography, video and other emerging visual storytelling techniques. As a member of the newsroom’s management team, he or she will oversee the work of a staff of 25 photographers, videographers and editors. He or she has a strategic responsibility in setting standards for how our visual media is presented in print, on our site and on other platforms and channels. He or she will guide visual storytelling efforts in daily and enterprise coverage and will coach and train journalists throughout the newsroom on producing multimedia content. The Director of Multimedia is responsible for supervising and coordinating the continued photo-, video- and audio-gathering training for photographers, reporters and other news staff. He or she will shape, articulate and champion the vision for multimedia storytelling at the Star Tribune. The Director of Multimedia will track and evaluate the performance of multimedia – photography, video, spot news and programmed content – and make strategic adjustments when necessary. The Director of Multimedia is also responsible for coordinating with other departments throughout the company in product development efforts to grow audience and revenue. Qualifications: The successful candidate will be a proven leader with news, video and web experience. He or she must have an extensive, accomplished journalism career in multimedia storytelling (including expertise in still and video photography), strong communication skills, a collaborative nature and organizational skills. An understanding of news presentation in multiple platforms and commitment to storytelling is essential.
