Newsday is looking to hire 2 full-time, Manhattan-based Photo/Video editors for their new Manhattan office. The candidate must be skilled at keeping on top of the news and ensuring that the photo needs of the site are being met. He/she must assemble and manage a pool of freelancers and work with editors/reporters/news managers to assign shoots. They also must coordinate with other Cablevision properties including Newsday and News 12.
The Digital Photo-Video Editor will be responsible to:
- Oversee photo and video needs for the site and its digital platforms.
- Hire and manage pool of freelancers.
- Work with editors, reporters and news managers to assign shoots.
- Though this predominantly is an assignment, editing and online multimedia position, the candidate must be skilled at shooting and editing photos/video.
- Produce online galleries and other content.
- Keep informed of current events, take part in planning process and propose stories to be covered.
- Understand and follow the process of creative photojournalism and editing.
- Help coordinate coverage and Local Media development.
- Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Skilled photo/video shooter and editor.
- Knowledge of Final Cut, PhotoShop, Hermes and FotoStation is required.
- Knowledge of news.
- Consistently demonstrates creativity and independence in pursuit of stories and assignments.
- Consistently identifies problems and seeks solutions.
- Skilled at juggling a variety of daily tasks on tight deadlines.
- Must be familiar with the New York Tri-state area.
- Able to work one weekend shift and be a flexible team player.
