The German Development Media Awards

The German Development Media Awards is a new journalism prize supported by Deutsche Welle. The awards recognize excellence in human rights and development journalism and are an initiative of Deutsche Welle and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Submissions are open to journalists from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Germany. Entries can include stories in all journalistic formats in print, radio, TV and online.

The stories should focus clearly on human rights and development and must have been published or broadcast between January 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013.

Call for African Photojournalists

One of the German Development Media Awards this year is for African press photographers covering human rights issues in Africa.

This award recognizes African photojournalists who inspire and change perceptions of life in Africa through the power of photographic storytelling.

The competition is open to professional African photojournalists who live and work on the African continent. The award winner will receive 2,000 euros in prize money and will also be invited to attend the awards ceremony in Berlin on August 14, 2013.
