MediaStorm Partners with NeXt Doc

MediaStorm is a proud partner of NeXt Doc, a one-of-a-kind program that brings together emerging documentary storytellers from across the country with award-winning documentary filmmakers to learn, share, and build their skills.

After a successful pilot in 2016, NeXt Doc is returning for its second year at the Carey Institute for Global Good, taking place Monday, June 5 to Friday, June 9, 2017. The five-day intensive program will feature three award-winning filmmakers: Sabaah Folayan, Samuel Pollard and Sonia Kennebeck. Each filmmaker will offer a master class and a screening session of their latest films, followed by an exclusive Q&A for NeXt Doc participants.

The goal of NeXt Doc is to convene a diverse group of emerging filmmakers for a unique, professional and creative development experience. Applications were submitted from young filmmakers in 12 states across the country, and two from outside the US. NeXt Doc has garnered support from several other organizations which, along with MediaStorm, will offer mentorship and resources to participants during and after the program, including: The Alliance for Media, Arts + Culture, POV, the International Documentary Association, The Sanctuary for Independent Media, as well as Firelight Media and The D-Word.

NeXt Doc is a tuition-free program and thanks to the Carey Institute’s generous in-kind donation, selected participants will be granted full room and board for the duration of the program as well as meals and access to the Carey Institute’s theater, workshop space, and editing suite. This is an important element of NeXt Doc, which aims to create space for filmmakers from communities that have historically not had access to film programs and development of documentary filmmaking skills.

To help fund the program, NeXt Doc organizers have launched a crowdfunding campaign and are in search of companies, organizations, and individuals that are forward-thinking, and committed to creating a positive impact. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation, and support this unique program.

Please make a donation to the #NeXtDoc #gofundme campaign and support the program that brings together emerging documentary storytellers and award-winning filmmakers for a week-long, intensive, learning, sharing and networking experience in upstate NY.
