The W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund Grant is presented annually to photographers whose work carries forward the tradition practiced by Eugene Smith during his 45-year photojournalism career. The grant enables recipients to undertake and complete worthy photojournalistic projects.

This year’s Keynote Speaker will be Susan Zirinsky, President & Senior Executive Producer of CBS News. The acclaimed journalist and news executive (who served as the inspiration for Holly Hunter’s character in the film “Broadcast News”) began her career in the CBS Washington bureau two weeks after the Watergate break-in. Over the next four decades, Zirisnky produced award-winning documentaries, specials, and programs. Covering historic stories, from the Gulf War, to the Tiananmen Square uprising, the 9/11 attacks to the Parkland mass shooting. The senior executive producer of “48 hours,” she has been honored with Emmys, the Alfred I. duPont–Columbia University Award, and the George Foster Peabody Award.
