Job Description

As a member of the newsroom’s management team, the Director of Multimedia will:

  • Oversee the work of a staff of 25 photographers, videographers and editors.
  • Set standards for how visual media is presented in print, online and on other platforms and channels.
  • Guide visual storytelling efforts in daily and enterprise coverage and will coach and train journalists throughout the newsroom on producing multimedia content.
  • Supervise and coordinate the continued photo-, video- and audio-gathering training for photographers, reporters and other news staff.
  • Shape, articulate and champion the vision for multimedia storytelling at the Star Tribune and lead necessary culture change efforts to achieve those goals.
  • Track and evaluate the performance of multimedia – photography, video, spot news and programmed content – and make strategic adjustments when necessary.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be a proven leader with news, video and web experience. He or she must have an extensive, accomplished journalism career in multimedia storytelling (including expertise in still and video photography), strong communication skills, a collaborative nature and organizational skills. An understanding of news presentation in multiple platforms and commitment to storytelling is essential.
