TODAYshow.com is looking for a Multimedia Supervising Producer:

You will, under limited supervision, lead in the creative and sophisticated editing and production of video, audio and still photographs using the highest journalistic, ethical, quality and esthetic standards. You will juggle multiple tasks simultaneously, working with the staff of TODAYshow.com, the TODAY show, and msnbc.com to formulate and execute coverage on deadline while staying within budget. Expertise in professional grade editing software for each medium, ability to train others and adaptability to new technology are all requirements. Mastery of industry tools and techniques and frequent innovation of processes, presentation and reporting of multimedia on site are important. As a supervising producer, you will be accountable for the quality and quantity of your team’s output, for mentoring other teams on best practices in video and photo production and editing, for planning and executing change initiatives in journalism, technology and collaboration, and for your staff’s career development. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of and curiosity about news events, lifestyle, culture and entertainment trends and developments and a superior eye for spotting interesting images and sound. Writing and verbal communication, enthusiastic team-work, organization and work-ethic are essential qualities for a successful candidate.

Core duties/responsibilities:

  • This is a player/coach role: The producer will produce while training, mentoring and supervising a small team of producers and editors and collaborating with the broader TODAYshow.com editorial team and the TODAY show.
  • Maintain a constant awareness of site priorities and available video and photo content. Then align the two creatively, using all available video resources.
  • Work with the TODAYshow.com, TODAY show and msnbc.com teams to maximize the flow of relevant broadcast and Web-only video content onto the site, including encoding of clips.
  • With creativity and working under limited supervision, edit still photographs to visually communicate the news on site stories, covers and section fronts, slide shows and interactive applications. Take lead in making difficult ethical, moral and financial judgments in picture use. Work to find new, effective, high quality sources of still imagery in lifestyle news verticals.
  • Select, edit and publish a representative thumbnail image to promote each video clip.
  • Research, produce, write scripts, shoot and/or edit video for original video productions in the studio and/or in the field, including daily stories and segments, weekly and monthly series and special projects, selecting appropriate visuals, audio, graphics, titles, and relevant editorial details for stories. Ensure accurate and compelling story presentation.
  • Write and edit text related to producing video and photo elements, such as headlines, captions and promotional text.
  • Project ownership: Manage and execute medium- to large-scale video projects and/or products and/or processes. This could be an ongoing series of video segments that constitute a Web show, or a series of special reports in a topical area. Or, it could be a product vertical like video podcasts or an ongoing collaboration, mentorship and training relationship with other internal or parent teams around video workflows and best practices in our rapidly developing industry.
  • Ongoing partner relationships: Manage the editorial and production aspects of long-term relationships with content providers, syndicators of our video content, and technology and equipment vendors.
  • Represent the entire TODAYshow.com team as a core stakeholder on long-term corporate product initiatives.
