If you’re thinking of applying for The Kalish Workshop, the Workshop and the NPPA are offering some great stipends and scholarships:
From the NPPA site:
The National Press Photographers Association is offering two full-tuition scholarships to The Kalish Workshop in June at Ball State University in Muncie, IN, and the workshop is offering 10 stipends toward registration.
The Kalish, in its twenty-first year, is four days of intense training in visual storytelling editing. Participants will learn how to establish a narrative, select media mix, edit the narrative, and produce the story for online and print. The Kalish combines lectures, hands-on exercises, critiques, and group discussions to create a complete learning experience. The workshop is geared for anyone who handles pictures for online or print. Picture editors, photographers, professors, writers, and designers will benefit. The workshop at Ball State will run from June 20 through June 24, 2011.
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must reside in the United States and make your living primarily through still photography. Please include a statement verifying that your work has been published by a publisher and is reasonably capable of being reprographically reproduced (i.e. photocopied) abroad, or your work has been commercially distributed by a licensee or a manufacturer in a form reasonably capable of being reprographically reproduced abroad.
To apply, please send an email of 300 words or less to Danny Gawlowski at dgawlowski@seattletimes.com. In your email please explain why you want to attend The Kalish. The deadline for applying is Monday, May 2, 2011.
Also, The Kalish is offering ten $150 stipends toward registration based on need. These selections will be made in early May. If you have already applied, you will be included in the selection process. The workshop application can be found online here. These stipends are independent of the NPPA scholarships.
