Generates video story ideas for the Bryant Park Project website, from original individual stories to recurring features; shoots and edits video; identifies video from external sources that we can obtain, publish, feature, and/or discuss on air or online; helps develop and cultivate a video strategy for Bryant Park; maintains a close relationship with NPR Digital Media and helps maintain standards and overall video strategy for NPR; makes and manages video assignments to freelancers; cultivates and manages relationships with outside sources of video material. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years television and/or professional video experience in a news or documentary setting; must be an idea machine with the skills to follow through; demonstrated excellence as a writer and visual story teller; demonstrated expertise in video shooting and editing; demonstrated experience with desktop video editing and production tools; experience working on a Web publication or demonstrable passion for new-media platforms, tools and approaches; familiarity with a variety of computer systems and software applications; ability to adapt to changes in equipment, software and workflow; understanding of journalistic ethics; experience maintaining high journalistic standards under deadline pressure, including standards of objectivity, balance and fairness; ability to handle multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent timeframes and changing priorities/conditions; ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure; ability and willingness to work varied shifts; ability to work independently and as part of a team; proven ability to consistently work well with others, demonstrating at all times respect for the diverse constituencies at NPR and within the public radio system; ability to relocate. In the future, NPR may choose to transfer employees to other geographic locations. Severance provisions of the AFTRA collective bargaining agreement will apply should you choose not to accept a transfer. Preferred significant daily news experience; experience in digital image editing and proven excellence with still and/or video photography, video editing and audio production.
