We are confronted with daily assaults of tragedy in the news–stories of war, migration, and the never-ending election cycle. But rarely do these stories give us the a way to connect, to empathize, and to reimagine our own world. Senain Kheshgi’s new series of short films on the lives of people living in Templehof Refugee Camp in Berlin allows us to do just that. Stories of Human Kind: A Search for Home is a partnership with Save the Children, Johnson & Johnson, and Facebook, and will be distributed by Facebook to over 55 million feeds in the next few weeks. On the series’ launch, Senain says “There are now more than 65 million people forcibly displaced around the world - we must remember to see them as individuals: nurses, small business owners, students - all seeking safety and security.” Thank you Senain for making these powerful stories come to life. From the photographer: Sixteen years ago I began making the first pictures of my twin brother Nick. Since then the photographs and text have been published nationally and internationally, they've been shared in group and solo exhibitions domestically and abroad, the book was published three years ago, and now it’s on view, for the first time at a museum as a solo exhibition. The photographs will be up until October 2. Please join us for the Artist Reception on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the Lyman Allyn Art Museum [625 Williams Street New London, CT 06320] (wine, water, and hors d'oeuvres provided). Obama Announces $90 Million to Clear Laos’ Unexploded Bombs

According to CNN, "President Barack Obama said Tuesday that US has an 'obligation' to help Laos recover from a brutal secret bombing campaign that destroyed parts of the Southeast Asian nation." While visiting the country's capital, Obama pledged $90 million dollars to clear millions of unexploded ordinances. The joint effort will take three years.
