Faculty Member Scott Sines tells us more about what you'll find at this year's Kalish: There are jobs out there for multi-media producers. There are jobs out there for visual editors who have creative ways of curating, quality, User Generated Visuals. MediaStorm and The Oil Spill Commission Collaborate on The Gulf Spill

MediaStorm and the Oil Spill Commission recently collaborated on The Gulf Spill. An overview video was launched this morning, corresponding with the release of the full report findings. The explosion that tore through the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig last April 20, as the rig’s crew completed drilling the exploratory Macondo well deep under the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, began a human, economic, and environmental disaster. Eleven crew members died, and others were seriously injured, as fire engulfed and ultimately destroyed the rig. And, although the nation would not know the full scope of the disaster for weeks, the first of more than four million barrels of oil began gushing uncontrolled into the Gulf—threatening livelihoods, precious habitats, and even a unique way of life. The Medill School at Northwestern University, one of the nation's top journalism schools, is looking for an "accomplished leader in video storytelling" to help steer the school's multimedia evolution. The full job description is available on Medill's website. Here's an excerpt describing what the school is looking for: Candidates must have an outstanding professional record that spans video-creation for a variety of screens and media. They must be able to demonstrate strong enterprise story-finding skills; how their teaching and/or professional career to date has had impact in and on journalism and other communications professions; and how audience understanding informs their work. MediaStorm welcomes interns Juliette Lynch and Sam Saccone

MediaStorm welcomes interns Juliette Lynch and Sam Saccone to our team. They will be working with us this spring on some exciting multimedia and interactive design projects. Juliette Lynch is a multimedia journalist who recently graduated from Syracuse University with degrees in Photojournalism and International Relations. Juliette is passionate about stories that focus on human rights and social justice issues. She recently finished an internship working as a daily shooter at the Philadelphia Inquirer, which followed a fellowship with News21, a Carnegie and Knight Foundations educational journalism initiative. She spent the summer producing multimedia stories that looked at the issues veterans in northern Washington face upon returning home from war. Her work was featured on the NPR Picture Show, LA Times Framework, and she was the 2010 Alexia Foundation student grant winner for her ongoing project, "Growing Up Girl."
