MediaStorm Multimedia Storytelling Workshop Announced

We are excited to announce that we will be holding a One Day Multimedia Storytelling Workshop on Wednesday, October 21, in New York City. The workshop will be held in Manhattan- specific location to be announced shortly. The Workshop will be held from 10am-6pm. The cost of the Workshop is $250. A special discount rate of $200 is available to full-time students. This one-day workshop provides an overview of multimedia storytelling approaches while engaging participants in discussion about the most appropriate ways to create a multimedia story. Through real world examples, the instructor will share tips and techniques to improve reporting and editing and discuss the most effective tools for specific jobs. This workshop is designed for anyone interested in multimedia storytelling, no experience is necessary. GlobalPost and MediaStorm collaborate on Life, death and the Taliban

GlobalPost and MediaStorm have collaborated to produce a new multimedia project, Life, death and the Taliban, which seeks to enhance America’s understanding of Taliban history in Afghanistan and Pakistan. At this crucial time in the U.S.-led war against the Taliban, Charlie Sennott recaps the group’s rise to power and looks at current political and counterinsurgency efforts in Afghanistan. Photographer Seamus Murphy, who has long chronicled the shifts of power in Afghanistan, accompanied Sennott to Kabul for this report. This project includes several stories and video pieces, along with an interactive timeline, to help viewers understand the complex issues at play in this volatile region.

This month's Digital Journalist leads off with a feature on Seamus Murphy's recent book, "A Darkness Visible," exploring almost 15 years of work in Afghanistan. The work is intimate and personal, looking at the culture of the Afghan people, not just the destruction of war. When asked why he did not write a lengthy essay for the book, Murphy responded: "I really don't have a message—I am probably as much in search of answers. What drives me is to shoot what interests me and to find out how life is for all of us. In that there may well be messages of humanism and my belief in the ultimate goodness of the vast majority of people—but it is not a conscious subtext." GeekFest 2009- a weekend of photo inspiration in South Florida

If you're looking for some photo-inspiration this fall, consider heading down to sunny Florida September 11-13 for GeekFest- the semi-annual get-together hosted in St. Pete, organized by APhotoADay's Melissa Lyttle. From Melissa: "Some things we’re cooking up this year include: a shuffleboard tournament, a shoot-out, a silent print auction and more… If you’ve never been to GeekFest before, it’s not your normal photo conference. It’s laid back. It’s low key. And it’s a pretty full weekend of photo goodness. We like to keep it casual and comfortable. Everyone that comes is there for inspiration, plain and simple." MediaStorm Workshops launch new projects

During the week of June 20-26, 2009, we brought 8 talented professionals together to collaborate with the MediaStorm team at the fourth MediaStorm Advanced Multimedia Reporting Workshop. This was a special workshop for us - given the tough economic climate and the critical need for multimedia training, we decided to hold a one-time, tuition-free Workshop, and we were thrilled and inspired at the number of people who put the time into applying for this opportunity.
