New MediaStorm-MAG Release ‘Surviving the Peace: Angola’

We are pleased to share Surviving the Peace: Angola, our most recent client project produced with the Mines Advisory Group (MAG). The second project in the Surviving the Peace series, Surviving the Peace: Angola tells the emotional story of Angolans living in the shadow of landmines and unexploded ordnance more than a decade after the conflict officially ended. This piece—the first MediaStorm project shot on Canon’s newly released C300 camera—was shot and produced in a style that would create a tense, uncertain mood. To detail the story of the Angolan Civil War, MediaStorm's motion graphics designer developed a graphics package that includes archival news reports, creating a fascinating look into Angolan history. Infected or Affected: A Photographer’s Multimedia Project

Matthew Lloyd, a London-based editorial and commercial photographer, recently went to South Africa to create a project about AIDS for Bishop Simeon Trust. He’s mainly a still photographer and didn’t originally intend for the project to be multimedia heavy. When he arrived to shoot though, Lloyd felt multimedia was the right medium for the project. The project he created, Infected or Affected is a moving multimedia piece that puts a face on the harsh statistics that are a reality in South Africa today: One in two women are raped, one in three girls complete secondary school, 12 percent of the population has HIV/AIDS. Having done only some short multimedia pieces in the past, this piece is the first in-depth multimedia project in his portfolio. 2013 World Press Photo Winners Announced

World Press Photo has announced the winners of its 2013 Multimedia Competition. In a press statement this morning, the jury chair Keith W. Jenkins said about the competition, “What we see in the winners this year is a high level of sophistication. The entries were uniformly high in quality. Brian Storm Receives Clifton C. Edom Award

Brian Storm, founder and executive producer of MediaStorm, has been awarded the National Press Photographers Association Clifton C. Edom Award. According to NPPA, the award recognizes an individual in the tradition of Cliff Edom to inspire and motivate members of the photojournalism community to reach new heights. According to the nomination, "Storm has backed up his vision with project after project of meaningful work, incorporating traditional still photography, but incorporating audio and video and informational graphics in compelling ways. He sees that the story of humanity remains the cornerstone to our profession." The award was announced along with NPPA's other annual awards including the Joseph A. Sprague Memorial Award, which was awarded to Charles W. “Chick” Harrity, retired from U.S. News & World Report Magazine, and Dennis Dimick, the executive environment editor and the interim director of photography for National Geographic Magazine, among other honors. Magnum Foundation and Inge Morath Foundation Announce 2013 Competition

The Magnum Foundation and the Inge Morath Foundation have opened the 12th annual Inge Morath Award. The annual award of $5,000 is given to a female photographer under the age of 30 to support the completion of a long-term documentary project. One award winner and up to two finalists are selected by a jury composed of Magnum photographers and the director of the Inge Morath Foundation. How to Enter All submissions must be postmarked or delivered electronically by April 30, 2013. Submissions must include: 40 – 60 photographs (1200 pixels on the longest side @ 150 DPI saved as a JPEG compression at 8 minimum). A project description outlining the project and how the award will be used to complete work on the project.
