Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective Seeking New Members

The Brooklyn Filmmakers Collective (BFC), a tight-knit community of professional filmmakers in Brooklyn, is currently seeking new members. Centering around weekly peer workshops with a small group of filmmakers, BFC members present their work- which can range from documentaries, narratives, experimental films and hybrids- discuss issues and ideas related to their project, and receive feedback and discussion around production, funding, and distribution strategies with other group members. Periodically, the BFC also invites guest filmmakers and industry representatives to share their experiences and engage with members' work. This coming season meetings will be held at Union Docs in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Tuesday evenings. The BFC application is due by Thursday, August 21st, 2014. MediaStorm Accepting Fall Internship Applications Through July 15th

We’re currently accepting applications for our Fall 2014 internship. If you’re motivated, highly organized, and passionate about multimedia, we’d love to hear from you. The internship generally runs from September to December, but start dates are flexible. We’re looking for applicants with experience in multimedia production, design, motion graphics, and/or web development. Internships are paid. Their job is to sell drinks to customers who book the karaoke rooms; in the neighboring dance club, also part of the Violin, there are cocktail waitresses. However, many are also freelance sex workers or ‘bar girls’ who make their own arrangements with the customers for a ‘date.’ Most of the customers are asian; they are either Thai, Korean, Chinese, or Japanese. Deadline Approaching: Alexia Foundation 2014 Women’s Initiative Grant

The deadline to apply for the 2014 Women’s Initiative Grant is Monday, June 30th, 2014 at 2 p.m. EST. The grant will provide a $25,000 grant for a project to be produced on a significant issue involving and affecting women. Eddie Adams Workshop Applications Due May 31st

The Eddie Adams Workshop will accept applications for its 27th Workshop, which will be held October 10-13, 2014, in Jeffersonville, New York, through May 31st. The Workshop is an intense four-day gathering of the top photography professionals, along with 100 carefully selected students. It is one of the premier photojournalism events for students and young professionals, and the only one that is tuition-free. Open Society Opens Call for 2014 Audience Engagement Grant

The Open Society Documentary Photography Project is soliciting calls for the 2014 Audience Engagement Grant Program, a funding opportunity for photographers documenting a human rights or social justice issue to enact change. Deadline to apply is July 8th, 2014.

Description

Beginning this year, two tracks of support will be offered to individuals at different phases of their Audience Engagement Projects:

Track One: Project Development – Grantees will receive funding to attend an Open Society–organized retreat in December of 2014. This event will be designed in collaboration with Creative Capital’s Professional Development Program. Attendees will become part of a larger Audience Engagement Grant cohort, with opportunities to connect both during the conference and after.
Track Two: Project Implementation – Grantees will receive funding to execute (or continue executing) their projects as well as attend December’s retreat.
