MediaStorm Receives Two News & Documentary Emmy Nominations

We are proud to announce that MediaStorm has been recognized with two nominations for the 36th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards. Hungry Horse, our film collaboration with Pieter ten Hoopen is a nominee in the New Approaches: Arts, Lifestyle, Culture category. Japan's Disposable Workers by Shiho Fukada, produced in collaboration with Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting is a nominee in the New Approaches: Current News Coverage category. MediaStorm Wins NPPA Best of Photojournalism Awards’ Best Use of Multimedia & More

MediaStorm is delighted to announce that The Long Night, our feature-length collaboration with multimedia journalist Tim Matsui funded by the Alexia Foundation, was named Best Use Of Multimedia in NPPA's 2015 Best Of Photojournalism Multimedia contest. The project was also recognized with first place in the Documentary Multimedia Story category. The Los Angeles Times' Product of Mexico was awarded second place in the category while third place went to The Denver Post's Trying to Live, Trying to Learn. MediaStorm was awarded second place in the Multimedia Portfolio category for Hungry Horse: Legends of the Everyday, The Long Night, Japan's Disposable Workers, The Last Chapter, Coney Island Jay and Inside Tracks. The Denver Post took first place in the category, while St. Paul Pioneer Press and the Los Angeles Times received third place and honorable mention respectively. MediaStorm Wins World Press Photo Multimedia Contest Long Feature Category

World Press Photo announced today that the winning productions of its 2015 Multimedia Contest include two MediaStorm projects: The Long Night has been awarded 1st prize in the Long Feature category while the "Net Cafe Refugees" chapter of Japan's Disposable Workers has been awarded 3rd prize in the same category. Created in collaboration with multimedia journalist Tim Matsui with the support of the Alexia Foundation and the organization’s Women Initiative grant, the The Long Night takes an unflinching look at the crisis of minors who are forced and coerced into the American sex trade. Set in Seattle, Washington, the film weaves together the stories of seven people whose lives have been forever changed by this issue. Internet cafes have existed in Japan for over a decade, but in the mid 2000s, customers began using these spaces as living quarters. Internet cafe refugees are mostly temporary employees, their salary too low to rent their own apartments.  Japan’s Disposable Workers is a film series…

In its 72nd year, Pictures of the Year International (POYi) is the oldest and most prestigious photojournalism program in the world. We are thrilled to announce that our first feature film, The Long Night, has been honored in the Documentary Project of the Year category. Created in collaboration with multimedia journalist Tim Matsui with the support of the Alexia Foundation, the film takes an unflinching look at the crisis of minors who are forced and coerced into the American sex trade. ‘The War Comes Home’ Receives NAACP Image Award Nomination

We are proud to announce that The War Comes Home, our first collaboration with Soledad O’Brien’s Starfish Media Group, is nominated for an NAACP Image Award in the category of Outstanding Documentary (Television). Category nominees include “American Experience: Freedom Summer” (PBS), “Bad Boys” (ESPN), “Mr. Dynamite: The Rise of James Brown” (HBO), and “Rand University” (ESPN).
