Support Philly: Friends of Philly 7th Annual Golf Outing

Philly Mayer’s story made A Thousand More one of our most powerful workshop projects to date. The short film documents his family’s determination to give their son a whole and vital life after Philly was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a genetic disease that leaves the spine underdeveloped.

Philly is still going strong and you can join in his fight against Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a disease occuring in an estimated 1 out of every 6,000 births. The Friends of Philly 7th Annual Golf Outing supports the Philly Fund’s commitment to lifting some of the financial and emotional burdens on families who care for these special children.

Neighborhood Centers and MediaStorm Present “H-Town Stories”

Neighborhood Centers Inc., is a not for profit organization that brings resources, education and connection to over 400,000 people throughout Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast region every year. Dozens of different social sectors fall under its scope. Neighborhood Centers asked MediaStorm to create a film that addressed the question: why does our work matter? H-Town Stories offers an answer. Rather than tell the history of how Neighborhood Centers came to exist and explain all that this massive organization does, we took the approach of telling personal stories about the people they serve everyday. Intimate, cinematic narratives bring the heart and soul of the organization to life. Houstonians can view an edited version of the film on Saturday, August 24th, 2013 at 5:00 pm on KHOU 11 News. The full-length feature will premiere on MediaStorm.com on September 19th, 2013.

MediaStorm Guide to Quickly Replacing Files in Premiere Pro

Here’s a handy tip for easily replacing assets in the Premiere Pro timeline. First, locate a photograph or video clip on your timeline that you’d like to replace. Then, in your Project Browser (Shift–1) locate your replacement file. As you drag the new item to the timeline, hold down the option key. Still holding the option key, hover over the asset in the timeline you’d like to replace. When you see a red box around the old clip, release the mouse. The timeline will instantly update with your new selection. What’s great about this shortcut is that the new asset will still possess attributes of the old one like cropping and effects, including color correction. This makes it particularly useful for updating RAW photographs with toned ones. Just make sure that both images are the same size. Gaining access to secretive pockets of society is based on trust. It’s that trust that photographer Anthony Karen sees as the foundation of photojournalism. “It’s a moment that’s constantly validated, the wordless acceptance into someone’s personal space with a camera,” Karen wrote to Slate.

After documenting Vodou rituals in Haiti, Skinheads, and the Westboro Baptist Church, Karen finds himself accepted by the Ku Klux Klan. He began photographing the Klan in 2005, after reaching out to members through phone numbers and e-mails listed on websites. After earning their trust, he was allowed unrestricted access to photograph.
