MediaStorm Welcomes Summer Intern Arkasha Stevenson

MediaStorm is excited to welcome Arkasha Stevenson to our team as our Summer 2013. Arkasha Stevenson is a photojournalist currently based in Los Angeles. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of North Carolina in December 2010. While attending school, she documented issues in the rural South, such as drug addiction and prostitution in Durham, N.C., and child care in Elizabethtown, Ky. For the last year and a half Stevenson has worked as a photography and video intern at the Los Angeles Times. During her internship she has had the opportunity to photograph a wide variety of subjects, including the Occupy movement, the remote desert squatter camp of Slab City and the Coachella Music Festival, and has been sent internationally to follow the Stanley Cup. For six months, Stevenson had the privilege of documenting 19-year-old Jesus Garcia’s battle with terminal cancer. In 2011 Stevenson won first place in the…

MediaStorm Guide to the Adobe Premiere Pro Media Cache Database

This article is part of a new series of posts with tips and tricks from our producers' experience working with Adobe Premiere Pro after years of working in Final Cut Pro. To read more about why we made the switch, check out this post. Today's post was written by MediaStorm producer Eric Maierson. Each time you import audio or MPEG video files into Adobe Premiere Pro, the application caches a version into a database. This speeds up performance so that new previews do not need to be generated each time you view a clip. Audio is stored in a .cfa file and MPEG in .mpgindex. These files are shared between Adobe Media Encoder, After Effects, Premiere Pro, Encore and Soundbooth. By default both the cache files and the database are stored in the location /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common. To check this, open Premiere Pro > Preferences > Media. NPPA Best of Photojournalism Awards 2013 Announced

MediaStorm is honored to announce we have won first place in the Best of Photojournalism Documentary Multimedia category for A Shadow Remains produced with Phillip Toledano. Former MediaStorm intern, Andrew Hida, took second place in this category for Follow My Steps. Third place went to "Gayla's Goodbye" by Dai Sugano for the San Jose Mercury News. The BoP Awards honored many excellent multimedia pieces this year. Alan Spearman and The Commercial Appeal swept the awards with "Memphis Poverty: What Obama Didn't See," which won Best Use Of Multimedia, first place for Feature Multimedia Story and honorable mention for Multimedia Package. "Framework" by Albert Lee of the Los Angeles Times won first place in the Multimedia Package and the Visual Column, Recurring Series or Visual Blog categories.
