Call For Entries: 2016 Alexia Professional Grant

The Alexia Foundation is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for its 2016 Professional Grant. The deadline for submissions for the Professional Grant is 2 p.m. Jan. 31, 2016. The Student Grant application will open Feb. 3, 2016 with the deadline at 2 p.m. on March 3, 2016. The Professional Grant Winner will receive $20,000 to help produce his or her proposed project. The goal of The Alexia Foundation Grants is to give voice to those who go unheard, foster cultural understanding and expose social injustice. The strength of the proposal will be judged equally to photographic skills. The grants go to those who clearly and concisely propose significant projects that share in the Foundation’s mission and who also submit photographic or motion materials that reflect the ability to execute the proposed project. MediaStorm Guide to Using the MediaStorm Asset Parser

This article is part of a series of posts with tips and tricks from our producers' experience working with Adobe Premiere Pro CC after years of working in Final Cut Pro. To read more about why we made the switch, check out this post. Knowing exactly what images and videos are used in the production of a film is a critical part of the MediaStorm workflow. We need this information in order to know which low-res footage needs to be purchased then swapped out with licensed hi-res footage, as well as which images must be toned then replaced in the timeline. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to do this in either Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro 7. So MediaStorm built the Asset Parser. Using the parser is easy. Lorelei, fighting to stop mountaintop removal, launches a campaign to build wind farm. Betty, who lost her brother in the disaster, joins Lorelei’s fight to bring justice and economic diversity to the coal fields of Appalachia. Director Chad Stevens presents the determination of the pair as they balance the town’s economic need for coal with its devastating impact.

MediaStorm’s 2015 Year in Review

2015 was an important milestone in MediaStorm’s history. With the support of our entire community, we were able to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. It’s been a decade since we created our first story, and we’ve continued to push the art and form of storytelling in myriad ways. Here’s are some of the highlights from 2015: We were honored to be nominated for two Emmys for our collaboration with Pieter ten Hoopen on Hungry Horse and with Shiho Fukada on Japan’s Disposable Workers. Travel Anonymous took us inside Jeff Hutchen’s life on the road. A stunning combination of Jeff’s photography and MediaStorm motion graphics, Travel Anonymous is a unique addition to the MediaStorm Publication. For the third year in a row, we partnered with our friends at the International Center of Photography and Harbers Studio to produce films to honor the legacies of the 2015 winners of the Infinity Awards.
