Congratulations to the 2014 Alexia Foundation Grant Recipients

Today the Alexia Foundation announced the recipients of the 2014 Alexia Foundation Grants: Sebastián Liste for the professional grant and Mehran Hamrahi for the student grant.

Liste, who lives in Alicante, Spain, will receive the $20,000 professional grant for his project, “The New Culture of Violence in Latin America” which is an investigation of crime, punishment and security in Latin America. The Alexia Grant will allow Sebastián to produce the final coverage in his five year study of violence in the region by exploring the issue in Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala, where communities have endured years of violence from drug wars, criminal gangs and the illegal trafficking of drugs, weapons and people. Sebastián’s work will raise awareness of the gravity of the current situation that impacts millions of citizens in the region and will impel political and media leaders to pay vital attention to this important issue.

Application Deadline for Smith Grants Set for May 31st

The deadline to apply for grants presented by the W. Eugene Smith Memorial Fund is set for May 31st, 2013. W. Eugene Smith Grant for Humanistic Photography 2013 Grant: $30,000 Discretionary Fellowship: $5,000 To Apply: http://smithfund.org/eugene-smith-grant Application Deadline: May 31, 2013 The W. Eugene Smith Grant is presented annually to a photographer whose past work and proposed project, as judged by a panel of experts, follows the tradition of W. Eugene Smith’s concerned photography and dedicated compassion exhibited during his 45-year career as a photographic essayist. The grant has often been referred to as the most prestigious honor in the field of documentary photography. For 2013, the amount of the grant will be $30,000 to provide photographers with the financial freedom to continue or complete a major photographic project. Pierre and Alexandra Boulat Grant accepting applications

Applications are now being accepted for the Pierre and Alexandra Boulat Grant. Deadline is June 30, 2010. Formed in the memory of Pierre and Alexandra Boulat by friends and family after the death of Alexandra Boulat in 2007, the Association seeks to keep the spirit of father and daughter alive through making their work available to the public and creating an annual grant to a photographer and sponsoring the education of young photographers. This 8,000 Euro grant will be awarded to a photographer covering a social, economic, political or cultural issue in a journalistic manner to "produce a story that has never been told but that the photographer cannot find support for within the media."
