World Press Photo Introduces Free Education Platform “Connected Learning”

Connected Learning is an open and free education platform on Facebook spearheaded by World Press Photo Academy. The first course, "Storytelling," is an extension of a face-to-face multimedia workshop happening now with ten selected participants from North Africa. Over the next ten weeks the Academy will be sharing tips and links provided by the trainers: Cédric Gerbehaye, DJ Clark and Matt Ford together with behind-the-scenes material from the face-to-face multimedia course.  Tutorials, assignments and video interviews with multimedia and photography professionals will also be made available to Facebook participants. The Evolution of Video Storytelling Featuring MediaStorm and DCTV

This week Futures Lab, with a little help from Brian Storm, founder and executive producer of MediaStorm, and John Alpert, co-founder and co-executive director of the Downtown Community Television Center in New York, explores how the proliferation of mobile apps and devices impacts visual journalism. The two veteran storytellers share insights about the place of micro-video via apps like Vine and Instagram and the challenges of funding quality work. In the midst of a changing industry and constant innovation, one principle remains: a good story is at the center of everything they do. Digital Storytelling With Brian Storm at the Global21 Fall Conference

On Saturday, November 9th, 2013 MediaStorm's Brian Storm will present Digital Storytelling and the Cinematic Narrative at the Global21 Fall Conference. Citing work by MediaStorm, Brian will emphasize how storytelling continues to evolve as a result of technological innovations and an expanding media universe. The digital age gives filmmakers, documentary photographers and photojournalists extraordinary and unprecedented new ways to tell stories. The conference will take place between Saturday, November 8th and Sunday November 9th. About Global21 Global21 is a network of student-run international-affairs magazines at premier universities around the world. Senior Producer Eric Maierson’s post “I Hate ‘Multimedia’” stirred up a discussion on what success in our industry looks like and what is required to get us there. We used your comments and questions to ask our Executive Producer and Founder Brian Storm (with thoughts from Director of Photography Rick Gershon) how visual storytellers can flourish in a constantly evolving industry.
