Remembering Our Veterans: Stories of Service by MediaStorm

MediaStorm is committed to developing in-depth, quality stories on the most important issues of our time, and perhaps none has touched us as deeply as those of our country’s veterans. In the last ten years, we have developed four films on veterans that explore loss, grief, hope, and the possibility of change. We believe that storytelling replaces anonymity and silence with empathy and information. Stories of veterans and their families give people insight into both what their lives look like outside of their services; and how service has impacted their lives. We hope that our stories help audiences think critically and compassionately about what it means to send our young men and women to war. Coming Soon: The War Comes Home

MediaStorm is proud to announce The War Comes Home, our first collaboration with Soledad O'Brien's Starfish Media Group, will debut on CNN on Tuesday, August 12th, 2014 at 9 p.m. EST and will encore at 12:00 a.m. EST, and on Sunday, August 17th at 7:00 p.m. EST. A recent study found that one in five veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan suffers from post traumatic stress, traumatic brain injury, or severe depression. Our film follows two of these men - Delon Beckett and Garrett Combs. Both suffer from post-traumatic stress, and both have decided they need a drastic change in their life, one that they can’t address on their own. Their hope for change comes from an organization called Save a Warrior. Founded by retired veteran Jake Clark, this five-and-half-day program claims it has found an answer. The Challenge of The American-Made Benny

We had numerous challenges in reporting, producing, and in making the decision to ultimately publish this story. We feel this story is incomplete due to access issues and time constraints inherent with MediaStorm's approach to a workshop story.
