Infected or Affected: A Photographer’s Multimedia Project

Matthew Lloyd, a London-based editorial and commercial photographer, recently went to South Africa to create a project about AIDS for Bishop Simeon Trust. He’s mainly a still photographer and didn’t originally intend for the project to be multimedia heavy. When he arrived to shoot though, Lloyd felt multimedia was the right medium for the project. The project he created, Infected or Affected is a moving multimedia piece that puts a face on the harsh statistics that are a reality in South Africa today: One in two women are raped, one in three girls complete secondary school, 12 percent of the population has HIV/AIDS. Having done only some short multimedia pieces in the past, this piece is the first in-depth multimedia project in his portfolio. Magnum Foundation and Inge Morath Foundation Announce 2013 Competition

The Magnum Foundation and the Inge Morath Foundation have opened the 12th annual Inge Morath Award. The annual award of $5,000 is given to a female photographer under the age of 30 to support the completion of a long-term documentary project. One award winner and up to two finalists are selected by a jury composed of Magnum photographers and the director of the Inge Morath Foundation. How to Enter All submissions must be postmarked or delivered electronically by April 30, 2013. Submissions must include: 40 – 60 photographs (1200 pixels on the longest side @ 150 DPI saved as a JPEG compression at 8 minimum). A project description outlining the project and how the award will be used to complete work on the project.
