Derek Brown

Cinematographer, Editor and Producer

Derek Brown is a director, cinematographer, editor, and producer of documentaries, music videos, commercials, and narrative films. He has worked on a wide-range of projects, including “Back In Time,” the feature-length documentary on Netflix, during which he filled a cinematographer role. On “Legacy: Bob Hurley,” an award-winning six-part mini series for Showtime Sports, he was a series cinematographer and editor. Most recently he directed and edited a comedy special for New York comedian, Nore Davis, entitled “You Guys Are Dope,” which will premiere on Amazon Prime in May. In addition to these projects he has directed, edited, and shot numerous commercials and films for a variety of brands including Amazon, Universal Music, Cytokinetics, Brooks Brothers, and NY Post Studios.

Born in Portland, Oregon, Derek attended the University of Oregon and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism in Spring of 2013. After graduating he moved to New York to pursue a career in filmmaking and has been working on his craft ever since.

He is interested in continuing to tell a variety of different styles of stories, but what draws him in most are stories and characters that are conflicted and dynamic. He loves exploring the tensions of everyday life, and the inherent interconnectivity that people share through these common challenges. He also enjoys writing screenplays, short stories, and taking photos in his free time.
