Jenny Varley

09: Aug 2013

Jenny Varley has been leading and producing HSBC’s award winning global news channel since November 2011. Since the launch, the program has attracted over 100,000 regular viewers and has picked up three awards: Best Web TV at the European Digital Awards 2012, Best Internal Communications at the Corporate Comms Awards 2012 and Best International Program at the CIPR Inside Awards 2013.

She cut her teeth at journalism on a local newspaper in her hometown of Birmingham just after graduating from Manchester University in September 1996. By March 1997, she secured an internship as a features assistant at Marie Claire magazine in New York City, USA. Her journey since has been incredibly diverse, creating publicity campaigns and live events for brands such as IMAX, Sony, Pepsi, Tate Modern, London Symphony Orchestra and even the Ministry of Defense.

Her career took an exciting turn in January 2003 when she joined the Harry Potter film crew as a Location Assistant. She went on to work as a Location Manager for various feature films for BBC and Working Title including Bridget Jones: On the Edge. This experience gave her incredible insight into filmmaking and she knew at some point she would get behind a camera and start creating. Since joining HSBC in 2009, she's been directing and field producing in Egypt, Turkey, Brazil, India, Hong Kong and will soon be heading to China.
