Kelly McIlvenny

Dr. Kelly McIlvenny is an Australian visual storyteller who has been working on a long-form documentary storytelling projects on issues relating to maternal health and young motherhood for the past five years. In 2016, she completed a Doctorate of Visual Arts from Griffith University. Her research documents the role women have played in the significant reduction of maternal deaths in Nepal over the past twenty years. Working as a sessional lecturer and tutor at Griffith University since 2012, Kelly teaches across the photographic, design and art theory departments. Before enrolling in her research program, she worked as a freelance photojournalist with work published in the Shanghai Daily, Shanghai Weekend, and Northern Star. She is currently cooking up a book on her photographic work, while collaborating with local artists and storytellers on curatorial projects exploring the boundaries of non-fiction storytelling.
