Kitra Cahana is a documentary photographer who began her career at the age of 17 when one of her photographs depicting the Israeli Disengagement from Gaza landed on the front page of The New York Times. In 2007, she worked at the Times as the Thomas Morgan photographic intern and later that year received a one-year scholarship to live in Treviso, Italy, and work at Fabrica, Benetton’s research communication center.

While in Italy she worked on stories around the world for COLORS magazine, traveling to the Pacific Islands of Vanuatu and Niue, Dominican Republic, Congo, and Kenya. In 2009, Kitra was chosen to be the photographic intern at National Geographic Magazine. After working on a story in Venezuela, she moved to Belarus and Moldova. She earned a BA in Philosophy from McGill University and is presently pursuing a MA in Visual and Media Anthropology from the Freie Universitat in Berlin.

Kitra Cahana is the recipient of the 2013 ICP Infinity Award for Young Photographer.
