Taylor de Lench
Photographer, Documentary Filmmaker
Taylor de Lench is freelance documentary filmmaker and photographer based in New York. He is a former Senior Video Producer for the Boston Globe, where his work producing short news documentaries earned him eight New England Emmy awards. de Lench's credits include Stopping the Presses, a look inside the last days of the Globe's printing press operation, Heart over Height, and A Day in the Life of Leo, exploring the story of a young Burundian burn victim and his selfless caretaker. He has guest lectured video journalism at Northeastern University covering cinematography, story structure and ethics of intent in filmmaking. He is most interested in visually exploring the "macro in the micro," and wants to eliminate the concept of B-roll.
Taylor participated in the December 2019 MediaStorm Methodology Workshop. He had the following to say about his experience:
Without hyperbole, the MediaStorm Methodology workshop was life changing. After nearly fifteen years of filmmaking, and having recently left my job at the Boston Globe, I started to feel my love of the craft waning. In four intensive days I was back in school, surrounded by talented storytellers having passionate, challenging discussions. The workshop gave me an open place to participate in spirited talks that lifted me, and empowered me to pursue my own ideas.
