Frequently Asked Questions
Trying to decide if you should apply? Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions we get from applicants.
What will I be doing as a Mediastorm intern?
This is a production internship. You will be working closely with the MediaStorm team to produce multimedia projects. This means full days in front of Final Cut, doing picture research, organizing images, transcribing, or doing whatever else needs to be done to complete a project. You will most likely not be gathering content or taking pictures as part of the internship.
We expect you to be proficient in an OSX operating environment and experience in Final Cut Pro and Aperture will help immensely. Our interns don’t do anything we don’t do ourselves—if you’re a coffee drinker, we’d love for you to grab us a cup if you run out, but we’ll return the favor another day, we promise.
What skills do I need for a successful internship?
In general, applicants should have familiarity with the following (or comparable) skills:
Multimedia Producers: Final Cut Pro, SoundTrack Pro, Adobe Photoshop, Aperture
Interactive Designers: Photoshop/Illustrator, HTML5/CSS/Javascript, Flash/AS3, After Effects, Motion
Developers: HTML5/CSS/Javascript (including jQuery and Backbone.js), PHP (including CodeIgniter)
What are the hours like?
We’re pretty flexible—a typical day is 10am-6pm, sometimes a little earlier, sometimes a little later. We work hard, but if you’re coming from out of town, you will have plenty of time to enjoy the city as well. Weekend work is rare (except during workshops).
Who will I be working with?
You’ll be working mostly with our producers, but depending on the internship, you may work with our interactive designers and developers. Either way, we’re a small team, so you’ll get to know the whole staff.
Who is this internship good for?
This is an advanced level internship. Applicants should feel comfortable in their skills as a photographer, producer, designer or developer and be looking for an opportunity to refine and advance those skills with an award-winning team.
Our interns must be self-motivated and proactive—we will work closely with you, but there will be times we’ll expect you to work on your own too.
When will I know if I’m chosen for the internship?
The application deadline for our Spring 2013 internship is November 1, 2012. We will be in touch with all qualified applicants by the end of 2012.
