This year's recipients of the 2016 Infinity Awards: New Media, bring a unique tapestry of skills that push the boundaries of image making and critical thinking.

Jonathan Harris is an artist and computer scientist. His work has been displayed across the country, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Greg Hochmuth is a computer scientist, and has worked for Google and Instagram. Both have a complicated relationship with the internet and have worked together to develop an artwork that explores some of the more difficult consequences of what it means to live with the internet. Their collaboration, Network Effect, is a timely and haunting mirror of what it means to live a life with the internet.

Since 1985, the International Center of Photography has recognized outstanding achievements in photography with its prestigious Infinity Awards. The awards ceremony is also ICP’s primary fundraising benefit, with its revenues assisting the center's various programs.

Harbers Studios commissioned MediaStorm, on behalf of ICP, to create a short film about each of the recipients to screen at the awards ceremony and to display online. The films pay tribute to the contributions of each artist to the craft and field of photography and demonstrate ICP's commitment to them.

The difficulty of creating a film about Network Effect was finding a way to visualize the artwork, which was created as a website.

Editor and producer Tim McLaughlin used the screen capture software iShowHD to capture high quality video of Network Effect, following a step-by-step description of the user experience detailed in the interview with Harris and Hochmuth.

The films were shown on April 11, 2015 at the 2016 International Center of Photography’s Infinity Awards in New York and launched online on April 12, 2016.
