Nic Huey

24: December 2019

Nic Huey is a senior photojournalism student at Western Kentucky University with a passion for documentary filmmaking. With a background in commercial film production, he has developed a love for non-fiction storytelling and the documentary process. He is forever seeking to document characters, relationships, places, and the narratives they weave.

When he’s not sitting behind his computer working on an edit or out in the field shooting, he can be found riding his bike around Atlanta, backpacking in the woods of Appalachia, or staining his fingertips in a darkroom. He’s still trying to figure out how to do these things simultaneously.

Nic participated in the December 2019 MediaStorm Methodology Workshop. He had the following to say about his experience:

Coming out of the MediaStorm Methodology Workshop I felt inspired and ready to take on new projects with a new set of skills. Brian’s workshop involved a practical look into the production of some incredible documentaries, allowing us to focus conversations around actual case studies and not hypothetical projects. We covered documentary production from dozens of angles: pre-production meetings to interview structure to final deliverables. I really enjoyed the engagement that was fostered by the small group setting, which led to some great in-depth conversations. As a soon-to-be college graduate, hearing Brian’s knowledge about documentary production in the real world will help me turn the skills I’ve acquired in school into a career.
