WSJ. Magazine 2018 Technology Innovator: Nonny de la Peña, has transformed the way audiences feel the human impact of the news through her innovative use of virtual reality. Her media company, Emblematic Group, has created virtual representations that take viewers inside the crisis in Syria; the prisons of Guantanamo Bay; war torn Sudan; and a glacier in Greenland.  Her work has premiered at countless film festivals, including SXSW, Tribeca Film Festival and the Sundance Film Festival; and moved audiences in unique ways. Reflecting on the impact of her work, de la Peña says “I've really seen how deeply it was affecting people. They'd pull off the headset and they would be crying and they would be focusing on you. I knew that I could never put my audience out there any more, they had to be inside the story with me.”

WSJ. Magazine 2018 Innovator Awards

Crafting a better future from a world in flux. This is the hallmark of WSJ. Magazine's 2018 Innovators—a group of visionary, foundation-shaking luminaries working across nine fields. This year's talents were honored at the annual Innovator Awards on November 7 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Selected by WSJ. Magazine editors, the honorees are: Ruth E. Carter (Design); David Chang (Food); Nonny de la Peña (Technology); Agnes Gund (Philanthropy); Jacques Herzog & Pierre de Meuron (Architecture); Jonah Hill (Film); Ralph Lauren (Fashion); John Legend (Entertainment); and Pheobe Waller-Bridge (TV).

MediaStorm, for the fourth consecutive year, produced short films that pay tribute to their talents; showcasing exactly why WSJ. Magazine named them Innovators.
