Over the course of her 20 year career as an actor, Angelina Jolie Pitt’s onscreen roles have been some of the most memorable and celebrated in American cinema. She’s one of the most highly paid actors in the industry and has used that wealth to help serve and promote many humanitarian causes.

Though many would be content to continue that successful career path, Jolie Pitt took a risk in 2011, directing her first feature film, In the Land of Blood and Honey. She’s continued to both direct and act, culminating in her most recent project, By the Sea, which she both directed and co-starred in, alongside her husband Brad Pitt.

Goal

The goal of this production was to make a short film about American actress and director, Angelina Jolie Pitt, for the Wall Street Journal Magazine’s fifth annual Innovator Awards.

The Challenge

In order to get access to behind the scenes footage from two recent films directed by Jolie Pitt, MediaStorm and The Wall Street Journal Magazine were provided sample footage, which then had to be approved by Universal Studios. Doing so meant that MediaStorm had to edit with footage which at the end of the day, may or may not be approved for use.

The Solution

MediaStorm first created a cut of the film with the supplied temporary footage. That footage was then broken down into a shot list which was sent to Universal for approval. The process for approval took several weeks, so it was key to get them the shot list early.

The Results

The films were premiered at The Wall Street Journal Magazine’s fifth annual Innovator Awards on November 4, 2015 and were released online the following day.
