Adnan Rashid is from Swat, the valley that was taken over by the Taliban in 2008-2009. At the time, Adnan was associated with a local radio station, broadcasting news and information at a time when the valley was cut off from the rest of the world.
Adnan, who has a master’s degree in journalism from University of Peshawar, has widely reported on conflict and humanitarian disasters such as earthquakes and floods. His experience earned him the prestigious, Intercultural reporting fellowship in DW- ACKADEMIE in 2008. U.S-Pakistan professional journalist exchange program in 2011, Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship (AFPF) and Daniel Pearl/Saleem Shahzad Fellowship Program in 2012.
In the last 10 years, he has reported from different regions in Pakistan including Pakistan-Administered Jammu and Kashmir, Islamabad, Peshawar, Swat, Hazara and Malakand Division. Establishment of FM radio in the militants controlled area, Swat, was one of his professional achievements.
Adnan says he would like to work with local journalists to help them improve journalism standards locally. He has set up an organization called Media Dimensions in his hometown of Swat. He hopes it will become an academy for journalism students one day.
