Phyllis Graber Jensen is director of photography and video for the Bates College Communications Office in Lewiston, Maine. She worked as a staff photographer for The Boston Herald from 1984-1992, where her work received recognition from the National Press Photographers Association, the Boston Press Photographers Association, and the Washington Journalism Review.
She values her previous workshop experiences, including the 1980 University of Missouri Workshop in Sedalia and the 2008 Platypus Workshop at Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, both of which enriched her professional life. A staff writer and photographer at Bates since 1995, she has produced three video shorts, Mustard Doublebreasted, For the Children, and Burial of Names, each of which screened in successive years beginning in 2010 at the annual Maine Jewish Film Festival in Portland.
Her commitment to multimedia storytelling has included writing and photography projects completed with students in the Lewiston public schools and an oral history project about the Lewiston-Auburn Jewish community funded by the Bates College Harward Center for Community Partnerships.
She earned a B.S. degree in human development from Cornell University and an M.S. degree in journalism from Boston University.
Phyllis participated in the August 2012 MediaStorm Methodology Workshop. She had the following to say about her experience:
A week with Brian Storm and his media priests transformed a mere fan into an acolyte. So here I am back at work, mere days out of the methodology experience, talking MediaStorm essentials to anyone who will listen. And I’m beginning to link five days of immersion to the coming year’s storytelling challenges. Brian’s personal vision, coupled with the diversity of his talented staff and focused workshop participants, yielded an unforgettable experience. Thank you for the tribal welcome.
