Workshop Participants
Leah grew up in a small town in Northern California and attended the University of California, Berkeley ('02 B.A. History), and San Francisco State University ('05 M.A. US Intellectual and Cultural History). After graduation, she became interested in how she could apply her academic interests and skills in a journalistic environment, and took a job at the Graduate School of Journalism at UC Berkeley. Former Dean at the Berkeley J-School Orville Schell brought her to New York when he was asked to head the new China Center at Asia Society. Leah is currently the Assistant Director of the Center on US-China Relations at Asia Society, where aside from managing Center operations, she produces video content for their website. Her main project right now is coordinating a multimedia museum exhibition and website, Rivers of Ice: Vanishing Glaciers of the Greater Himalaya.
Leah participated in the July 2010 MediaStorm Storytelling Workshop. She had the following to say about her experience:
For me, the biggest take away from the MediaStorm Workshop was feeling a renewed charge to do my work better so the stories I am telling get the justice they deserve. To be entrusted with a story so personal, the responsibility was quite humbling. I left the workshop inspired and thankful that I am in a field where learning about other people's histories and perspectives is considered work - and also wishing I could be so productive every week of my life!
